SMART-PerkinElmer Laboratory

SMART-PerkinElmer Laboratory
10 PerkinElmer instruments

What we do

We don't let science stay in the lab. The SMART-PerkinElmer Laboratory carries problems from fundamental science to industry, with the analytical depth to validate every solution against world standards.

Mission

To carry out experimental research and development, through to technological scaling, of new smart materials, biosensors, waste-revalorization processes and microfluidics, as solutions for the agricultural, chemical, automotive, biomedical and energy sectors.

Vision

To be a catalyst for the region's 2030 research vision, aligned with Campus Queretaro's strategy to consolidate as the innovation hub of DistritoQRO, and to strengthen the science-to-industry connection in advanced materials for sustainable manufacturing

How value moves through the lab: fundamental science, applied research, industrial implementation.

Some of the sectors we serve

Agro-inputs, soil and crop-residue analysis, and food-grade material quality

Compound purity, formulation support and trace-contaminant detection.

Elastomers and thermomechanical durability and performance.

Biosensors, biomaterials and microfluidics for health applications.

Storage and battery materials, catalysts and process efficiency.

New areas of opportunity. Bring us a material or a challenge and we will scope it with you.

Highlighted project

Circular Rubber Technologies

Turning rubber waste into new raw materials through advanced catalysis.

Every year more than a billion tires reach the end of their life. Because of their cross-linked structure, rubber and elastomers are among the hardest materials to recycle by conventional methods, so most of it is buried or burned.

This project takes a different route. Using controlled catalytic processes, it breaks the long polymer chains in rubber and recovers valuable molecules that can be used again as building blocks for new materials. The work combines chemistry, nanotechnology, process engineering and materials science to develop reusable catalysts, efficient reactors and materials designed for continuous recycling.

Dra. Cecilia Daniela Trevino Quintanilla.

Researcher and laboratory lead, SMART-PerkinElmer Laboratory.

Achievements and goals

  • Demonstrated conversion of rubber through olefin metathesis

  • Patent application for elastomer degradation and valorization

  • Competitive national and international funding secured

  • Recoverable catalysts and specialized reactors in development for scaling

  • Collaboration with the University of California, Irvine
1B+ end-of-life tires each year, worldwide Hardest class of materials to recycle 4+ disciplines integrated in one single project
